What is Habitat for Humanity of Warrick County?

Habitat for Humanity of Warrick County is a not-for-profit, Christian housing ministry that strives to eliminate substandard housing by building in partnership with God and his people decent, affordable, energy efficient homes in which people in Warrick County can live and grow into all that He intended. Our mission is simple, our purpose is clear: to reach out to people in Warrick County who need a hand-up to help their family obtain housing and to provide an opportunity to those who are willing to work to help themselves achieve this goal. Habitat has built 37 Habitat homes, but served 40 families right here in Warrick County! Habitat will construct 2 new homes in 2020! To make this happen, we rely on our community partners and volunteers, because without them, our mission would be impossible. We are always in need of volunteers and community partners! To find out more how you could partner with Warrick County Habitat, see Volunteer link above, and partner with us to give deserving families a hand up, not a hand-out!

Warrick County Habitat works very hard to help as many families as possible by raising our own funds through internal fundraising programs such as recycling, full use of our facility and space, as well as operating our ReStore, which is a retail store where we sell new and used building supplies and home decor, including doors, windows, appliances, paint, cabinets, furniture, and even kitchen sinks! See our link above to learn more about donating to the ReStore, our hours, and the types of product we have in our inventory!

Another program that we administer to help families achieve the dream of home ownership is the USDA Mutual Self-Help Housing Program. This program consists of a partnership between Warrick County Habitat and USDA Rural Development in which we recruit families to apply and help them qualify for loans through USDA Rural Development. We manage the construction process and oversee the entire building process to help families build their own homes. Although the houses are funded and the construction process is managed slightly differently from our traditional Habitat program, having this additional housing program has allowed us to increase our housing capacity to serve an additional 84 families in Warrick County, and we have already received the grants to help another 6 families through 2020! Through the partnership in this program- there are many more families who we can reach out to in Christian love that we would not otherwise have had the opportunity to work with. For more information about the USDA Mutual Self-Help Housing Program or our traditional Habitat Housing Program and to find out if you could qualify for a home, see the Housing Programs link above!
